As a newbie I decided I would download and install the SYNTH kits as promoted on the 2Box Website.  I create a 'Synth' folder as told  BUT I was less than half way though putting the files into the folder when I got a mesage saying no more room on the hard drive???   What the **** !!!  How do I add new kits if the bleeding drive isnt big enough - surely thats the whole point of  2box you can add more files???  or am I missing something here?

Yes, you miss a lot. Because the SD card is already jam-packed with samples and mp3's. You have 2 ways to go now. 1. Delete the mp3's and pdf manual after you make a copy on your PC or Mac (always make a full copy of the content of the SD before you start tinkering, and never ever reformat if you do not need to).
2. Read the forums and especially the hardware mod which replaces the internal 4 GB SD into a 32 GB external SD. Presto! 8 times more storage.

Have a nice day!

Read the info about card extender ... not into mucking about like that.  So if i do understand things to add any new soujds and kits to the sd card i have to first take something off. ??  So 2box claims that there are 100 inbuilt kits and you can add 999 more is just lies.  Im beginning to think i made big mistake bothering with 2box.

What lies? That is the number of kits you can have, you could make 999 variations of kits from the 4GB of content already on the module. Or since you backed up your existing files on your computer you can remove some of the stock sounds from the module and add some new sounds if you like. You can trade sounds back and forth as much as you want. The typical Roland module total content is very little, in the Megabytes of low resolution sounds, and you can't add or replace factory installed sounds. But you should really go with what makes you happy. Stick with the Roland modules if you are happier with that. Definitely.
I could tell you where to stick that piezo! :D ;)

The problem here is jumping to conclusions without understanding the platform and it's capabilities. Take a breath....use some patience and dig into the power this module and it's 3rd party offerings have to offer. It's not a Roland...thank goodness.....it's much more diverse but one has to take the time to put aside the Roland mentality when tackling something of this nature in order to glean from the vast  expanse of what this module has to offer. Buying the 2Box was not a mistake...but judging it without truly understanding what it's possibilities are very well could be. It's a very nice advanced piece of gear....it's just different from what you have been used to with the TD6. ;) Relax and ease into it, then you will understand what it is that is so overwhelming and appealing about this platform and why this community is so infatuated with it. :)

Yes I admit Im jumpng to conclusions ... but thats because what is fairly basic poduct information isnt being provided in a easy and staight forward way.

What they need to say is

"The 4GB card can hold up to 100kits - if you want to add a different kit to the 100 already on there , you need to remove some to make room for the new ones'. You can copy the original kits and sounds to your PC hard drive so you have them available to add back at a later date" or somethink along those lines.

I understand your point. The 2Box is a further development of Dd3 and Dd4 and the makers are not gifted pr and marketing folks. They are edrum and electronic specialists. Writing a manual is a different thing, however, with the 1.2x manual you might be able to tame the beast and what a magnificint beast it is.

The reason why the SD is built-in is because the 2Box specific use requires fast input-out rates combined with fast access time rates. Many cards cannot do that. Looking at the way the cardholder is designed 2Box decided in a late stage to drop a cardslot and keep it in the box to guarantee performance. The electronic design for the USB is IMHO the only component due for an upgrade, it limits the size of the internal SD to 4 GB. The external 32 GB mod is therefore worth te effort.

Hi Murgen , thanks for the explanation of how the cards perform I wasnt aware of that.

To be honest with my current ROLAND Kit I only use about 10 of the built-in 100 kits for gigs with my band and Ive re-arranged the order on my TD6 brain so those kits are all together in slots 1 - 10  to make it easy to change during gigs.   (I have modified some of the kits to fit specific songs). I dont anticipate ever really needing 1OO different kits for gigs.

So for me just having  say 20 kits  at any time on the 4Gb card will be enough .  Im hoping to be able to use a selection of the basic 2Box kits (probably modified ) then add a few of the 2Box new accoustic and synthkits from the website downloads available  plus I was going to sample some of the Roland kits and sounds from my TD6 that I particularly still want to use and create some WAV kits  to use on 2Box.

So, I do have a very clear master plan of what I want to do using 2Box. I just need to find my way around the system to do it . And I'm not expecting to ever need more than 4GB worth of sounds at any one time, so I can avoid the complexity of messing about with torx screwdrivers and expansion cables.

I did only acquire the 2 Box kit on Monday evening of this week - so I'm still very much a 2Box virgin ... hoping to grow into a  2Box slut ASAP LOL

There are plenty of kits to make a top 20. I come from TD3 which is the same generation as TD6 (roughly spoken).

The best way to make an inventory is hook up the module to the PC or open the backup you already made and scroll throught the subdirectories. You will get a list of instruments per category (toms, hihat, snare ... ).

On the 2Box you can also scroll throught the available instruments and try them. As long as you do not save a setting the default one will remain in memory. This way you can tailor pick / Assemble your favourite kit per component. Make sure you select using the output you have rehearsing or gigging. A headset sounds much different than PA/Speakers.

Still on Rhodes and no kit at hand.
