This is the type of cable you're looking for

That one's even got some orange on it :)

Happy Christmas everyone and huge thanks to the 2box team for the new sounds....

The turkey's going to have to wait, I think I'm going to be a bit busy on Christmas day  ;)

hopefully over Chrimbo I'll get a chance to put together a BFD2 map which I'll post up here...The midi-learn on that is fantastic, makes assigning the kits a doddle.

As for that USB cable, presumably it comes with a Device Driver? If the cable is correctly installed I expect it'll show up as an I/O in your sequencer. Is it one of those ones when you have to install the drivers before plugging it into your PC?

Heh, you know what, I think I did exactly the same thing by accident while I was playing around with the settings and I'm really happy with how it feels and sounds.

hey patbat, have you tried a different lead? (it'll help find out if it's the hi-hat sensor or a bad cable)

welcome aboard SoftailClassic!

go play with a demo kit and let us know how you get on :)

how about something like this?

To be honest you wouldn't want to keep your laptop mounted on something you're hitting repeatedly...I'm pretty sure the vibrations wouldn't do your hard drive any good at all.

Keep rockin'

I've got mine plugged into Cymbal 2 (with a DD4 cymbal in 3).

In the brain, the ride shows up as pad 12, with Curve set to Pos1, threshold at -48, gain at 2. The Cymbal group level is at default.

I can't give it a whack tonight but I get the feeling the crash sometimes comes when I hit close to the join between the bell and bow, so I've been aiming for the top of the bell...Good for precision technique :)

not much I can say but w00t! it's good to hear the kit is working well 'in the wild' :)

As for extra sounds, I've found that a DD4 cymbal, while not perfect, is okay to assign a crash/splash/china to with the gain at minimum - to start with it played permanently choked, until I went into the menu and turned choke off, and restarted the brain...it triggers a full volume hit in the centre, and bit of 'ride' edge on the bottom left...strange, but you can get used to it :) ...and the toms work fine except there's no rim trigger.

Happy Diwali to you too :)

More control over the hi-hat - I'd like a seperate set of controls over the tip, shank, open and closed sounds - everything from level, threshold, pan, and especially decay, and even simple EQ over each aspect, like you get in BFD...Some of the 2box hats have lots of character which is very nice to have but it would be nice to tweak at source...I like a crisp high-end tip sound and practically infinite open sounds until I snap those bad boys closed :)

...i still find it tricky to reliably trigger the bell of the ride cymbal but that was the case with other vendors too...

Have you tried playing around with your gains, curves and thresholds? I don't have a scientific answer but I found the occasional 'crash' from the ride's bell disappeared after I had a play with the settings, and it seems to depend on a variety of different criteria.

I kind of get the feeling that there is quite an 'organic' sweet-spot that you have to find yourself with the 2box, whether it's cymbals, kicks or snares or whatnot...between your own playing style, and the defaults of the system, there is a lot to tweak and it can take a few hours of very pleasurable messing about to get the whole thing setup to your liking. The menus are daunting at first but you'll suddenly find you're diving around the different options.

I don't know about you, but I always found that getting everything right, from the angles of the toms to the travel in your kick pedal, was one of the great things about playing acoustics..,not to mention the hours of tuning and re-tuning the top and bottom heads and then having to change it all because of different micing positions etc).

In answer to Steve's question...I think the sounds are unparallelled, but you do need to spend time to get them just right according to your tastes.

yeah i know what you mean, it's a lot of dosh, but for your money you're getting a practise kit, several top quality drumkits, and the capability of adding your own sounds...My DDrum 4 has lasted me 10 years and is still going strong (with a set of mesh heads to replace the original skins) so I have great faith in its successor (in all but name). If you haven't already, try and spend some time playing it in the shop to make sure you're happy though. If you're spending that much money the shop should be happy to let you take it through its paces :)

Good choice mate :)

I'm a cheapskate so my solution would be gaffer tape the iPod onto the brain somewhere :)

Otherwise maybe you could try modifying one of those car dahboard-mount kits?

As for headphone volume, I'll put in a disclaimer that loud volumes can permanently damage your hearing....But I probably don't need to tell that to drummers eh? :)

I personally prefer a little more oomph, so I've got mine routing into a mixer, through my DAW PC, and out to a nice old technics amp with a good clean sound. That way I can play mp3s on my PC at the same time and the whole mix goes into the amp -> headphones.

If you're taking a line out from the brain to an amp or whatever, you'll need to get a pair of 6.35mm (1/4") jack leads which end in the right type for your amp (for instance RCA) ...and a 3.5mm to stereo pair 1/4" for line-in from your iPod.

Good luck!
